Question: How many ounces of Fitter 35 is one pound? How many ounces of Fuel is equal to one pound?

Answer: Stephanie,

Thank you for your question, and for choosing HONOR Show Chow.

The High Octane products are all measured dry by weight (not liquid by volume). So, 1 lb = 16 ounces. So, 16 ounces of Power Fuel = 1 lb, and 16 ounces of Fitter 35 = 1 lbs.

Tim: Feeding

Question: We have a nice york gilt. She is weighing 205 lbs and our fair is 30 days. She is a very picky eater. I need some help with feeding her. We have her on honor power fill. It has helped but she still does not eat much can you help? She is square and has a nice ham and shoulders. All she needs is to put on weight and fill out her ribs. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer: Tim,

Thank you for your question and for choosing HONOR Show Chow showpig products.

I suggest trying to find something that the gilt will eat. Somethings that might help are the High Octane supplements (Power Fuel, Champion Drive, and Fitter 35), and Ultracare Gel.

Paylean will also help speed up growth.

Rick: Weight Gain

Question: The weight of my two fair pig gilts is 170 lbs and 180 lbs. Their on T-100 grower and paylean top dress from honor show feeds their eating 6.5 to 6.8 lbs per day. The fair is July 23 or 28 days away they were born on March 1. They need to weigh 230 lbs. Are they going to make it and do you have any suggestions?

Answer: Rick,

Thank you for your question and for choosing HONOR Show Chow showpig products.

Your pigs have fairly normal growth so far. For a late July fair, showpigs should really be born by February 1st. Your pigs are at least 1 month too young for your show.

If they weigh an average of 175 lbs now, and they gain 2.2 lbs per day for the next 28 days, that would put them at about 235 lbs or so on that July 23rd.

I suggest feeding Paylean for 14 days, then removing it from the pigs diet until there is about 14 days left until your weigh in. Also, adding energy will help speed up growth rate.

I suggest also feeding our High Octane Power Fuel at 1 to 1 1/2 lbs per day. Start at 1/2 lb per day and increase by 1/4 lb every 3 to 4 days until the pigs are at 1 1/2 lbs per day.

Also make sure the pig are dewormed effectively. I suggest Safe Guard dewormer administered over a 3 consecutive day period.

Question: I have a show pig (barrow) of good genetic background farrowed on 2/26/10, he has clean drinking water in a cool and clean living environment and is eating honor grind and mix at 20% protein 2.5% fat and 1.9% lysine he is gaining 2.25lbs/day on free feed and I have just started to top dress with high octane fitter 35 to try to boost daily weight gain. I am hoping to push to a 3lb/day, is there anything you can recommend to help me get that extra 3/4 lb per day. The barrow currently weighs 115 lbs and I realize weight will come easier at or on the 150 lb mark, but at current gains animal may not reach target/projected weight.

Answer: John,

Thank you for your question and for choosing HONOR Show Chow showpig products.

First, a grower feed with 1.9% lysine and only 2.5% crude fat is fairly imbalanced. It is very good that the pigs are gaining at 2.25 lbs per day.

Fitter 35 is very high in crude protein and very low in energy. It is used as a fat burner and muscle builder. It will not increase growth rate as energy fuels growth not protein. And, Fitter 35 is very low in energy.

A better choice for increasing growth is by adding High Octane Power Fuel at 1 to 1 1/2 lbs per day. This should boost growth.

Question: We just weighed the boys market barrows. One is weighing 223 lbs and the other is weighing 220 lbs. We weigh our pigs on August 3rd. What do you suggest we fed these hungry boys. Up until today they have been getting four pounds of grower each feeding, so a total of 8 pounds. One of the boys needs some top shape, I was thinking some fitter, how would we work that into our feed program.

Answer: Nicki,

Thank you for your question and for choosing HONOR Show Chow.

I will assume the maximum weight at your show is 280 lbs. So, the pigs can gain about 1.5 lbs per day.

I suggest feeding:

(TOTAL FEED PER DAY; DIVIDED INTO TWO EQUAL FEEDINGS):

Powerfill 2 lbs
Power Fuel 1 lb
Champion Drive 1 lb
Beet pulp 1/2 (soak in water for 5 minutes then add to feed, mix and feed)

Question: I have a Hamp gilt that weighs 220 pounds. We believe that she needs cover, muscle definition, and still needs to grow. We have 26 days till our county fair. What should I feed her?

Answer: Tyler,

Thank you for your question and interest in HONOR Show Chow. It was also very nice seeing your dad at our recent show VIP in St. Louis.

I suggest feeding your gilt our Showpig Finisher or Special Effect product as the base feed. Special Effect has a large inclusion of ground beet pulp, so it is a little better for breeding gilts. However, Showpig Finisher will work well.

In addition, I suggest adding our High Octane Champion Drive at 1 to 2 lbs per day as a topdress to improve the gilts top and muscle definition. Also add our High Octane Power Fuel at 1 1/2 lbs per day to improve body condition and speed up growth rate.

Rhonda: Stiffness

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Question: My son has a a really nice market gilt. She weighs approximately 150 pounds. Over the last week she has started to walk really stiff. She is currently being fed Showpig 16 with a topdress of Powerfill and Power Fuel. Last week we started giving her Glucosamine. Would love to hear another option for her.

Answer: Rhonda,

Thank you for your question and for choosing HONOR Show Chow.

Many things can cause stiff movement.

Such as:

- excessive muscle (in which case usually our Showpig 16 does a great job)
- structure (being to straight through the shoulder or through the rear hock) – this is pretty much genetic in this case Showpig 16 is the feed to use along with a natural glucosamine supplement
- too much exercise too fast. Pigs get sore just like us.
- If also maybe infection related and arthritis has begun to set in. Usually, they have really painful joints and some swelling.
- Paylean – if the pig is not quite sound, Paylean can cause restrictive movement

If none of these fit your pig you might want to consult a veterinarian to see what could be done from a topical aspect.

Question: I have 2 barrows that are at 205 pounds right now. Weighing at fair is July 18, both barrows could use some top shape and a little more muscle but I do not want them do go over 280 lbs, the weight limit. Any help appreciated.

Answer: Chris,

Thank you for your question.

From the numbers you gave, it appears the barrows can gain about 2.27 lbs per day (280 to 205 / 33 days).

So, for more top shape and muscle, I would feed:

(TOTAL FEED PER DAY; DIVIDED INTO TWO EQUAL FEEDINGS MORNING AND EVENING):
HONOR Show Chow Powerfill 2 lbs
High Octane Champion Drive 1 lb
High Octane Fitter 35 1 lbs
High Octane Power Fuel 1 lb

Ben: Weight Gain

Question: I have a fair in the 1st week of september and my 2 hogs weigh about 140 or 150 lbs. I feed honor products but they only sell the grower and finisher here. The judge this year wants them heavy and thick. My duroc is just that, but my blue butt is more leaner and more cut all around. What can I do to make my blue butt more thicker all around?

Answer: Ben,

Thank you for your question and for choosing HONOR Show Chow.

For adding muscle dimension and cover to your pig I suggest adding some of our other HONOR Show Chow and High Octane products.

I suggest feeding the following:
(TOTAL FEED PER DAY; DIVIDED INTO TWO EQUAL FEEDIGNS MORNING AND EVENING):
HONOR Show Chow Showpig Finisher 3 to 4 lbs
HONOR Show Chow Powerfill 1 lbs
High Octane Champion Drive 1 lbs
High Octane Power Fuel 1 to 1 1/2 lbs

You can also add our High Octane Paylean Premix for the final 14 to 21 days (2 ounces per day).
