LongView Animal Nutrition Center, Land O’Lakes Purina Feeds’ renowned nutritional research facility in Gray Summit, Mo., hosted the event.
“We wanted to bring in the leaders of today’s youth to share our commitment to research and how we can positively impact show animal projects,” said John Zeloski, Marketing Manager for the Honor® Show Chow® brand. “This was our biggest and best event to-date, thanks to our Ambassadors and Technical Nutritionists!”
The two-day workshop consisted of show cattle, show pig and show lamb presentations from nutritionists Dr. Kevin Burgoon and Dr. Steven Myers, exclusive demonstrations on new product development and product quality from research teams, as well as clipping, fitting and showmanship workshops from Honor® Show Chow® Ambassadors. Topics included: Cattle Clipping and Fitting by Kirk Stierwalt and Bob May; Management and Showmanship by Dave Guyer and Dave Allan; Lamb Selection, Management and Showmanship by Mark Johnson and Taw Wayne Dunham; Show Goat Demonstration by Mike Harbour and Jim Missildine; Pig Selection and Showmanship by Kent Bennington, Bryan Vaughan and Ryan Watje; and Show Poultry Management by Keith Staggs.

All attendees were provided with an instructional show pig DVD and information on the new Purina Rewards promotion.
Honor® Show Chow® will host another VIP event in June of 2011.
This week was a week of new beginnings for my family. My daughter started High School, my son started Junior High and their Grandmother gets to enjoy the part of retirement she treasures most -sleeping in (she doesn’t have to get anyone on the later morning bus). I am pretty certain they were all excited for different reasons! Alex and Cameron both had summer homework due the first day of class—my wife and I didn’t ever recall having a homework assignment over the summer.
Our state fair went well. Cameron won 2 classes and had a Reserve crossbred division winner in the Junior Show barrow show. Alex had a class winner and a 3rd in the open barrow show. In the breeding gilt show they had a York class winner.
It was a good week at the Ohio State Fair. They made new fair friends, connected with existing friends—I told them some of my closest friends I met during the fair showing livestock while in 4-H when I was young-and they are still my very good friends today. Of course they looked at me funny when I tried to share my wisdom. I even reminded them if it wasn’t for 4-H, I wouldn’t have met their mother!
Last week I went to Alexandria, Louisiana for a show feed clinic. The clinic was held at LSU and we had a great crowd.
Ohio Showring Success Seminar…..a great SUCCESS!
Although the weather was not so fantastic, 625 people still made it out to attend the Showring Success Seminar in Springfield, Ohio!
The event focused on show pigs, lambs and goats – with demonstrations and presentations by HSC Ambassadors.
As a grand prize at the event, EBY Trailer gave away a "Showstock Box" (which is a great new product they just began making). The lucky winner was George Licklider of Urbana, Ohio. George attended the Seminar with his grandson Will Bauer - a first year 4-H member who will be taking breeding and market goats. Will has been working with his grandfather George on building a small barn and pens to house his new "goat gang.” Will is proud to report that the barn and pens are now complete and ready for goats. The "Showstock Box" from EBY Trailer will come in handy as George and Will begin shopping for his market goat projects and for the foundation goats for their breeding program.
Thanks all of our attendees, presenters, and EBY Trailer for making this event a SUCCESS!
Success at the NWSS!
