Miranda: Product

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Question: I have a lamb that has to weigh at least 100 pounds by march 19th and he currently weighs approximately 80 pounds. I was told that pouring buttermilk on their feed will help with weight gain. Will this hurt them? Also, do you know of anything else I can do to add weight?

Answer: Miranda,

Thank you for your question. That is 20 lbs in about 19 days. Or, 1.05 lbs per day gain. That can be done, but we usually see this in young fast growing lambs.

I think it depends upon how much buttermilk you were told to use. Too much can cause real problems in the lambs rumen, can cause the reverse of what you are wanting to achieve.

I suggest feeding HONOR Show Chow Showlamb Grower DX at 3 lbs per day along with High Octane Power Fuel. That is your best option for getting lambs to grow rapidly.

Thanks again,
