Mark: Quality Control

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Question: The midwest had issues with moldy corn. What is quality control doing to make sure your feed is safe to use. We have not had any problems in the past. I would like to know the shelf life on your show lamb feeds the texturized product. We have a freezer we plan on using for storage this summer setting it at 40 degrees to try to keep the feed as fresh as possible. Thanks for your thoughts!

Answer: Mark,

Thank you for your email and interest in HONOR Show Chow Showlamb products.

Although we prefer that our textured feeds be fed within 45 days of manufacture, our Showlamb Grower DX textured feed should be fine for at least 90 days during periods of warm weather. During cool seasons, the feed is fine for at least 120 days.

Usually, ruminants have little problem with mycotoxins, especially vomitoxin which is more prevalent this year. However, we have included a mycotoxin binding agent in all HONOR Show Chow products. We also check every load of corn coming into our plants for mycotoxins and have rejected many loads.

Thanks again,

Dr. Kevin Burgoon
